Overview
TP Training is an approved training provider by SafeWork NSW for the RIISS00055 Traffic Management Implementer (Yellow Card) course in Sydney. This training program equips participants with the skills and knowledge needed to implement a work zone traffic management plan on or near a worksite.
Please note: This course does not provide qualification to control traffic with a stop/slow bat or boom gate, nor does it authorize participants to modify existing traffic control plans.

Key Competencies

Units of Competency
Upon successful completion, participants will receive accreditation in the following units of competency:
- RIIWHS201E – Work Safely and follow WHS policies and procedures
- RIICOM201E – Communicate in the workplace
- RIIRIS301E – Apply risk management process
- RIIWHS302E – Implement traffic management plans
- RIIWHS303 – Position, set-up and program portable traffic control devices
Entry Requirements
To enroll in the Traffic Management Implementer course, participants must meet the following criteria:
- Be 17 years of age or older
- Hold a current SafeWork NSW White Card (or equivalent)
- Provide original ID documents totaling 100 points, as per SafeWork NSW ID guidelines (photo ID, date of birth, signature, and residential address must be included)
- Provide proof of Australian/New Zealand citizenship or residency
- Be physically capable of lifting equipment, signs, and other devices during practical training
- Provide a Unique Student Identifier (USI) number
- Complete a Language, Literacy, and Numeracy assessment with TP Training

Course Structure & Duration
This course involves:
- One full day (8 hours) of classroom-based training
- Half-day (3 hours) live practical assessment
Participants should arrive 15 minutes before the course start time to complete enrollment paperwork. Late arrivals (15 minutes after the start time) will not be permitted to join the course.
Participants must wear appropriate safety gear for practical sessions, including work boots, long trousers, a long-sleeved shirt, a hat, and a high-visibility vest or shirt.
Training & Assessment
The training consists of:
- Classroom activities and theory lessons
- Group discussions and questionnaires
- Practical implementation using full-scale devices in controlled environments
Assessments are conducted as per the RII Resources and Infrastructure training package and must be completed across three live projects on real traffic management worksites.
Assessment methods include:
- Written questionnaires and theory-based activities
- On-site practical application and observations
- Submission of workplace samples and documentation
Certification
Upon successful completion of both the theory and practical assessments, participants will receive:
- A SafeWork NSW Statement of Completion (SOC), valid for 90 days, allowing participants to work under supervision
- A nationally recognized Statement of Attainment (SOA) for the completed units of competency
Participants must complete a live practical assessment within the 90-day validity period to receive a SafeWork NSW Traffic Control Work Training (TCWC) card. The card may take up to four weeks to arrive by post from SafeWork NSW. If not received within this timeframe, participants should contact SafeWork NSW at 13 10 50.
