Traffic Control Combo Course (Blue & Yellow Card)

TP Training, a SafeWork NSW-approved provider, offers the Traffic Control Combo Course, designed for participants to obtain both the Traffic Controller (Blue Card) and Traffic Management Implementer (Yellow Card) qualifications. This course focuses on equipping participants with the knowledge and skills to safely control traffic using a stop/slow bat, manage temporary traffic signs, and implement Traffic Guidance Schemes (TGS), while adhering to WHS guidelines.

Course Description

This course is ideal for individuals looking to manage and direct road users with stop/slow signs, portable traffic devices, and boom gates. Key skills include setting up, monitoring, and closing down traffic control operations following strict safety and legislative guidelines.

Core Skills:

• Control traffic using stop/slow bats.
• Operate and maintain portable traffic control devices.
• Understand Traffic Guidance Schemes (TGSs) or Traffic Management Plans (TMPs).
• Perform risk assessments, toolbox talks, and incident reporting.
• Use communication devices and radio systems effectively.
• Apply work health and safety (WHS) requirements and operational standards.
• Comprehend spacing and signage placement within TGS/TMP.

Units of Competency
Upon completion, participants will gain competency in the following:

• RIIWHS201E – Work safely and follow WHS policies
• RIICOM201E – Workplace communication
• RIIWHS205E – Control traffic with stop-slow bat
• RIIWHS206E – Portable traffic control devices
• RIIRIS301E – Risk management processes
• RIIWHS302E – Implement traffic management plans

Entry Requirements
Participants must:

• Be at least 17 years of age
• Hold a valid SafeWork NSW White Card
• Provide 100 points of ID according to SafeWork NSW guidelines
• Have the physical ability to lift and handle equipment
• Provide a Unique Student Identifier (USI), you can create your USI here.
• Complete a TP Training Language, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN) assessment

Training and Assessments
The course spans two classroom days (8 hours each) and one practical day (6 hours). Assessments will be conducted both in the classroom and onsite across multiple live projects. This includes the use of full-scale devices, real-world traffic scenarios, and written assessments to meet the RII training package standards.

• Assessment Methodology:
  • Theory questionnaires and practical tasks
  • Onsite work-based assessments
  • SafeWork NSW approved practical observation

Participants must wear appropriate work gear, including high visibility vests, work boots, long sleeves, and trousers.

Certification and Validity
Upon successful completion, participants will receive:

• A SafeWork NSW Statement of Completion (SOC), valid for 90 days, allowing work under supervision
• A Statement of Attainment (SOA) for the units of competency
• A Traffic Control Work Training (TCWC) card from SafeWork NSW

Please note that the SOC is valid for 90 days, and participants must complete all live practical assessments within this period to receive their TCWC card. If the card is not received within four weeks, contact SafeWork NSW at 13 10 50.

Attendance Policy

• Attendance is mandatory, with students expected to arrive 15 minutes prior to the start time to complete registration.
• Late arrivals will not be admitted.
