The Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) training course is designed to equip participants with the skills and knowledge necessary to contribute to a safe and enjoyable environment in licensed premises where alcohol is sold and served. It is mandated by law for anyone working in an establishment that serves or sells alcohol in NSW.
TP Training is approved by Liquor and Gaming NSW and accredited by the Australian Skills and Quality Authority (ASQA) to deliver this training course, which is nationally recognised.
Who Should Attend?
This course SITHFAB021 is required for anyone seeking employment in an establishment that sells or serves alcohol in NSW. If you have never completed an RSA course or if your RSA competency card expired more than 28 days ago, you will need to attend this training.
If you already have a valid RSA competency card or it expired within the last 28 days, you can complete the Liquor & Gaming NSW Online Refresher Course instead.

Entry Requirements
To enroll in the RSA course, participants must:
- Provide one form of photo I.D. (e.g., Passport, Australian driver’s license, or proof of age card).
- Provide a Unique Student Identifier (USI). You can create a USI here.
- Complete TP Training’s Language, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN) assessment.

Attendance Information
Participants are required to arrive 15 minutes prior to the scheduled course start time to complete enrolment paperwork.
- If you arrive 15 minutes late, you may be refused entry to the course.
Training & Assessment
The RSA training covers essential alcohol-related topics, including:
- Liquor industry regulations and facts about alcohol.
- Identifying intoxication and managing harm minimization.
- Benefits of responsible service of alcohol.
- Practical strategies for the responsible service of alcohol.
- Refusal of service, dealing with underage drinking, packaged liquor, and managing alcohol at events.
The training will include a combination of PowerPoint presentations, class activities, videos, and an end-of-day assessment.
Certification Process
Upon successful completion of the RSA course, participants will receive the following:
- NSW RSA Interim Certificate on the same day.
- A Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment for SITHFAB021 ( known as SITHFAB002) – Provide Responsible Service of Alcohol.
Steps to Receive Your Competency Card:
- Complete the RSA course successfully and obtain the NSW RSA Interim Certificate.
- Take the interim certificate and 100 points of identification (details provided on the back of the interim certificate) to the nearest Service NSW center.
- Your NSW RSA Competency Card will be mailed to you within 4 weeks.
