Prepare Work Zone Traffic Management Plan Course (PWZ) (Red Card)

TP Training is an approved SafeWork NSW training provider offering the Prepare Work Zone Traffic Management Plan Course (PWZ), also known as the RIISS00056 Traffic Management Designer (Red Card) course. This course is ideal for professionals responsible for developing traffic management plans and traffic guidance schemes, providing them with the knowledge and skills necessary for the role.

This course does not qualify participants to control traffic with a stop/slow bat, operate boom gates, or set up traffic control plans. For these qualifications, TP Training offers other specific combo Blue and Yellow Card courses.

Who Should Attend
This course is ideal for experienced traffic control operators or those working in traffic management roles in the Resources and Infrastructure industry in NSW. It equips participants with skills in:

• Preparing a Work Zone Traffic Management Plan (TMP)
• Conducting risk assessments at temporary traffic management sites
• Designing, selecting, and modifying Traffic Guidance Schemes (TGS)
• Incorporating environmental management plans
• Collaborating with road authorities and project stakeholders

• Design and modification of Traffic Guidance Schemes (TGS)
• Performing risk assessments in compliance with statutory requirements
• Drawing TGS/TMP, including pedestrian and vehicle movement plans
• Identifying hazards, approvals, and risk control for road networks
• Calculating lane capacity and determining stakeholder notifications
• Using TMP/TGS software and performing on-site inspections

Entry Requirements

To enroll, participants must:

• Be 17 years or older.
• Hold a current SafeWork NSW White Card (or equivalent)
• Provide 100 points of ID (as per SafeWork NSW guidelines)
• Show proof of Australian/New Zealand citizenship or residency
• Be physically able to handle equipment and signs during practical assessments
• Provide a Unique Student Identifier (USI). you can create your USI here.
• Complete TP Training’s Language, Literacy, and Numeracy assessment

Training and Assessments

The course includes:

• Classroom activities and theoretical lessons
• Group discussions and practical sessions
• Use of TMP/TGS development software
• Preparation of Traffic Management Plans (TMP) and Traffic Guidance Schemes (TGS)

Assessments include:

• Theory questionnaires
• Development of two Traffic Management Plan projects
• Practical observation and workplace samples
• Submission of projects and documentation

Certification

Upon successful completion, participants will receive a Statement of Attainment (SOA) from TP Training listing all the units of competency. TP Training will then notify SafeWork NSW to issue a SafeWork Traffic Control Work Training (TCWT) card.

Participants will also receive a Statement of Completion (SOC), valid for 90 days, allowing them to work under supervision immediately. The TCWT card may take up to four weeks to arrive. For any issues with card delivery, contact SafeWork NSW at 13 10 50.
