Overview
The Food Safety Supervisor (FSS) Skill Set Course SITSS00069 is designed to equip you with all the necessary skills and knowledge to become a competent and certified Food Safety Supervisor. This course is nationally recognised and approved by both the NSW Food Authority and the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA).
As mandated by the NSW Food Act 2003, hospitality and retail food service businesses in NSW are required to have a designated Food Safety Supervisor to ensure safe food handling practices and reduce the risk of foodborne illnesses. This legislation requires refresher training every five (5) years to stay compliant.
Course Description
The NSW Food Authority’s FSS program was implemented to reduce foodborne illness in the hospitality and retail food sectors by improving the skills and knowledge of food handlers.
This course is designed for supervisors and other key staff to understand food safety standards and practices. You will learn how to manage occupational health and safety (OH&S) in the kitchen and ensure all food handling meets stringent safety protocols.
By completing this course, you will have the tools to supervise food handlers and implement safety procedures in your workplace.

Entry Requirements
Participants must provide:
- One form of valid photo I.D. (e.g. Passport, Australian driver’s licence, proof of age card)
- A Unique Student Identifier (USI) number, create your USI here.
- Completed Language, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN) assessment by TP Training

Attendance Information
Participants should arrive 15 minutes before the course starts to complete the necessary paperwork. If you arrive 15 minutes late, you will not be admitted to the course.
Course Duration
- 8 hours, including breaks and administration time
Training and Assessment
The Food Safety Supervisor skill sets course includes:
- A PowerPoint presentation
- Classroom activities
- Videos
- End-of-day assessment
The assessment consists of multiple-choice questions, case studies, and short-answer questions to ensure competency across all units.
Certification
Upon successful completion, participants will receive:
- A nationally recognised Statement of Attainment (SOA) from TP Training listing the units of competency completed
- A NSW Food Safety Supervisor certificate issued by the NSW Food Authority
