Course Overview
This course teaches participants how to:

- Control traffic with stop/slow bats and portable devices.

- Understand Traffic Guidance Schemes (TGSs).

- Manage WHS, risk assessments, and toolbox talks.

- Communicate effectively with radios.
-
- Apply traffic control policies, safety standards, and regulations.
It’s designed for those needing to direct and monitor traffic and set up traffic control devices safely. This course does not qualify participants to modify traffic control plans but equips them to understand and manage site traffic.
Course Description
Participants will learn skills to:

- Stop/direct road users.
-
- Monitor traffic with portable devices.
-
- Maintain incident reports.
-
- Understand TGSs/TMPs.
-
- Respond to environmental changes (traffic, weather, conditions).
-
- Set up/close traffic control systems per WHS requirements.
This includes performing risk assessments, using communication devices, and adhering to traffic control policies. The course also covers post-operation tasks like cleaning and storing equipment.

Entry Requirements

Attendance
The course consists of:

- 2 days (8 hours each) of classroom training.
-
- 1 day (6 hours) of live practical assessment.
Arrive 15 minutes early for enrollment. Late arrival (over 15 minutes) will result in course refusal. Wear high-visibility clothing, boots, long sleeves, and trousers for practical training.
Training & Assessments
Training includes classroom activities, questionnaires, group exercises, and full-scale practical simulations. Practical assessments occur over two sessions for the Traffic Controller qualification and three live projects for Traffic Management Implementer.

- On-the-job observation by SafeWork-approved RTOs.

- Workplace documentation submissions.
Certification
After completing the course, participants receive a SafeWork NSW Statement of Completion (SOC), valid for 90 days, allowing immediate work under supervision. Complete two live assessments for the Traffic Controller card. Participants will also receive a nationally recognized Statement of Attainment (SOA) and SafeWork Traffic Control Work Training (TCWT) card within 4 weeks.
